PARK DISTRICT PROFESSIONALS EARNS PRESTIGIOUS CERTIFICATION
James P. Braun, parks staff maintenance 1 crew leader and Tim Pokorney, park staff maintenance 1 for the Round Lake Area Park District have recently earned the distinction of becoming Certified Grounds Technician by the Professional Grounds Management Society.

Becoming a Certified Grounds Technician requires in-depth study of key topics such as basic plant care, shade trees, turf management, shrub/flower care and pest/disease control. In order to complete the necessary requirements to earn their certification, Braun and Pokorney first had to be accepted into the program. Once course work is completed a final test must be passed to obtain certification. They are now one of approximately 60 park professionals nationwide that hold this distinction. Their supervisor, Jose Piniero, parks operations supervisor recognizes and appreciates their initiative and accomplishments. "These employees have displayed a great attitude and a real interest in learning everything they can about their jobs. They are assets to our agency," said Piniero.
